Income Officer

We are recruiting on behalf of a small, community-focused housing association in Birmingham for an experienced Income Officer to provide temporary cover.

As an Income Officer, you will focus primarily on rent arrears and income management, managing a relatively small caseload and ensuring appropriate recovery action is taken in line with policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review rent accounts and identify missed payments and arrears.
  • Take appropriate action to progress arrears cases.
  • Contact tenants to discuss arrears and negotiate repayment arrangements.
  • Draft and issue rent-related correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate case records and update the housing management system.
  • Liaise with the DWP regarding benefits and income-related matters.
  • Refer tenants to appropriate debt, money and welfare advice services.
  • Respond to tenant enquiries and provide general housing support.
  • Undertake occasional tenant and property visits where required.
  • Support wider housing management duties where appropriate.
About You:
The successful Income Officer will have:
  • Previous experience in an income, rent arrears or housing income role – essential.
  • Strong knowledge of rent arrears recovery within social housing.
  • Experience negotiating repayment arrangements with tenants.
  • Experience drafting rent-related correspondence.
  • Knowledge of working with the DWP and benefit-related matters.
  • An understanding of debt, money and welfare advice referral routes.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organisational and IT skills.
Wider housing management experience would be advantageous. A driving licence and access to transport would be beneficial for occasional visits.
Court representation experience is not essential.
