As an Income Officer, you will focus primarily on rent arrears and income management, managing a relatively small caseload and ensuring appropriate recovery action is taken in line with policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review rent accounts and identify missed payments and arrears.
- Take appropriate action to progress arrears cases.
- Contact tenants to discuss arrears and negotiate repayment arrangements.
- Draft and issue rent-related correspondence.
- Maintain accurate case records and update the housing management system.
- Liaise with the DWP regarding benefits and income-related matters.
- Refer tenants to appropriate debt, money and welfare advice services.
- Respond to tenant enquiries and provide general housing support.
- Undertake occasional tenant and property visits where required.
- Support wider housing management duties where appropriate.
The successful Income Officer will have:
- Previous experience in an income, rent arrears or housing income role – essential.
- Strong knowledge of rent arrears recovery within social housing.
- Experience negotiating repayment arrangements with tenants.
- Experience drafting rent-related correspondence.
- Knowledge of working with the DWP and benefit-related matters.
- An understanding of debt, money and welfare advice referral routes.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organisational and IT skills.
Court representation experience is not essential.
