Industrial Electrical Engineer – Installation & Automation

Qualified and experienced industrial electrician to support electrical engineering projects at industrial facilities across the UK. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical installation work, solving technical problems and working with a variety of industrial equipment.

The role involves installing, connecting, maintaining and upgrading electrical systems used in large-scale production environments. Projects may include machinery installations, electrical distribution, control cabinet wiring, instrumentation and the implementation of automated systems.

You will be based in Suffolk, with travel to sites throughout the country. A willingness to work at different locations and undertake overnight stays when necessary is essential.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must hold:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering.

  • 17th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification as a minimum.

  • Appropriate Approved Electrician status, supported by relevant hands-on experience.

A background in industrial electrical engineering is essential. Experience with automated production equipment, process plants or manufacturing facilities would be particularly useful.

Main Duties

  • Carry out electrical installation work on industrial plant, machinery and associated infrastructure.

  • Install cable containment, route cables and complete electrical terminations.

  • Connect motors, variable speed drives, sensors, actuators and other electrical components.

  • Assemble, install and connect control panels and electrical enclosures.

  • Work from technical drawings, wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.

  • Assist with equipment start-up, electrical testing, commissioning and fault diagnosis.

  • Undertake modifications to existing installations and support equipment upgrade projects.

  • Identify electrical faults and help implement effective solutions to minimise equipment downtime.

  • Maintain high standards of workmanship and comply with applicable electrical legislation and site safety requirements.

  • Coordinate with engineering colleagues, site representatives and other contractors to ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.

The Ideal Candidate

We are interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Strong practical knowledge of industrial electrical systems.

  • The ability to interpret technical information and work accurately from electrical drawings.

  • Familiarity with motors, control circuits, electrical panels and industrial automation equipment.

  • A safety-conscious approach and an understanding of relevant wiring standards.

  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage tasks with minimal supervision.

  • Clear communication and a professional approach when working at customer premises.

  • A full UK driving licence and the flexibility to travel for work across the country.

Previous experience in sectors such as food production, agricultural processing, bulk materials handling or other process-driven industries would be advantageous. However, suitable experience gained in other industrial environments will also be considered.

The Opportunity

  • Pay rates appropriate to your Approved Electrician qualifications and experience.

  • Varied assignments involving industrial electrical engineering and automation.

  • Exposure to different types of plant, machinery and control technology.

  • The opportunity to broaden your technical knowledge through practical project work.

  • A collaborative working environment with experienced electrical and engineering personnel.

  • Nationwide project work offering variety in both equipment and working environments.

This position would suit a competent industrial electrician who takes pride in producing high-quality work, enjoys working with technical equipment and is comfortable travelling to different project locations as part of their role.
