Our client, a successful UK-based organisation operating within a complex, multi-site environment, is looking to appoint an experienced Employment Legal Counsel to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded employment lawyer to take ownership of a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment law matters while partnering closely with senior business leaders and HR stakeholders.

Reporting into the Group Head of HR, you will act as the business's specialist employment law advisor, providing pragmatic, commercially focused legal guidance that supports organisational objectives whilst effectively managing legal risk.

The Opportunity

This is a varied and influential in-house role where you will provide expert advice across a wide range of employment law matters, including employee relations, Employment Tribunal claims, organisational change programmes, TUPE transfers, redundancy exercises and workforce transformation initiatives.

You will work closely with HR, operational leaders and external legal advisers, helping to shape people practices, strengthen compliance, and support business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice on a broad range of employment law issues including disciplinary, grievance, discrimination, whistleblowing, harassment, redundancy, restructuring, settlement agreements and senior exits.
  • Lead and manage Employment Tribunal claims and pre-claim matters, including ACAS Early Conciliation.
  • Develop litigation strategies, prepare legal documentation and support the business through hearings and settlement negotiations.
  • Advise on TUPE transfers, outsourcing and insourcing projects, acquisitions, organisational change and workforce transformation programmes.
  • Support collective consultation processes and trade union-related matters where applicable.
  • Draft, review and update employment contracts, policies, procedures and governance documentation.
  • Monitor legislative developments and ensure business practices remain legally compliant.
  • Deliver training and guidance to HR teams, managers and senior stakeholders on employment law best practice.
  • Manage relationships with external legal providers and support effective control of legal spend.

About You

We are keen to hear from qualified employment lawyers who can demonstrate:

  • UK-qualified Solicitor with approximately 3+ years PQE in employment law.
  • Strong experience across both contentious and non-contentious employment matters.
  • Proven track record handling Employment Tribunal cases and ACAS processes.
  • Excellent knowledge of TUPE, organisational change, redundancy and collective consultation requirements.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to provide practical, business-focused advice.
  • Outstanding stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently while operating in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous in-house legal experience.
  • Experience within property or facilities management, support services, outsourced services or other operationally complex environments.
  • Background supporting mergers, acquisitions, outsourcing or large-scale transformation programmes.
  • Experience working within unionised environments.
  • Advocacy experience within Employment Tribunal proceedings.
