Our Leicester cient is looking for 2 Technicians - Tape Testing & Metrology, to join them on a 6 month contract, due to an uplift in work. The roles do have the opportunity to go permanent following the initial timescales needed.

About the Role
We are looking for a Technician - Tape Testing & Metrology to join our UK team and play a key role in the day-to-day testing, inspection and traceability of HTS tape materials.
This is a hands-on technical role, responsible for operating tape testing and measurement equipment, carrying out incoming inspection of HTS reels, maintaining accurate test and traceability records, and supporting the Tape Insertion Manufacturing Engineer with production activities.
The successful candidate will have a practical, methodical approach, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and accurate data.
Key Responsibilities
Tape Testing & Metrology
· Operate the tape test stand and associated tape-star and thickness measurement equipment on a daily basis.
· Set up and carry out testing and measurement activities in accordance with approved procedures.
· Accurately record, review and maintain test and measurement data.
· Identify and escalate abnormal or out-of-specification results.
· Maintain a clean, organised and controlled testing environment.
Incoming Inspection
· Carry out incoming inspection of all HTS reels received at the UK office before they are released to production.
· Check reel identification, packaging, bag condition and visual condition.
· Perform defined measurements and inspections and accurately record results in the relevant database.
· Maintain full material and reel traceability.
· Identify damaged, non-conforming or suspect material and ensure it is appropriately held or quarantined.
Reel Routing & Material Control
· Make reel routing decisions in line with defined acceptance criteria, including:
o Long-term storage
o Production
o Quarantine / hold
· Maintain accurate records of reel status and location.
· Escalate quality or material issues to the appropriate engineering or quality team.
Equipment & Calibration
· Maintain calibration records for test and measurement equipment.
· Monitor calibration status and ensure equipment remains within its required calibration period.
· Maintain test stand consumables and identify replenishment requirements.
· Carry out routine equipment checks and basic troubleshooting.
· Report equipment faults and support corrective actions as required.
Tape Insertion Support
· Set up and operate the tape insertion line in accordance with approved procedures.
· Support the Tape Insertion Manufacturing Engineer with data logging and production traceability.
· Accurately record process and production information.
· Support engineering trials, investigations and continuous improvement activities.
About You
We are looking for someone who is hands-on, technically minded and highly detail-oriented. You will be comfortable working witequipment and following defined procedures while also being able to recognise when something does not look right.
You will ideally have:
· Previous experience in a measurement technician, manufacturing, inspection, testing or metrology environment.
· Experience using measurement or test equipment.
· Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
· The ability to accurately record and manage technical data.
· An understanding of quality, inspection and traceability requirements.
· Good practical problem-solving skills.
· The ability to follow written procedures and work instructions.
· Good computer skills and confidence working with databases or production records.
· The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider engineering/manufacturing team.
Experience within HTS, superconducting materials, advanced manufacturing, tape processing, metrology or a similar technical environment would be advantageous, but is not essential.
