The Role
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Instrument & Analyser Technician to provide day based engineering support on an Upper Tier COMAH manufacturing site. Working with minimal supervision as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance team, you will play a key role in maximising plant reliability, maintaining operational integrity and ensuring the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance.
This is a dual-skilled position requiring strong instrumentation and analyser maintenance experience, with responsibility for maintaining safety-critical equipment across the site. The role will involve occasional working at height and confined space entry, along with additional hours during planned shutdowns or major plant breakdowns where required.
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out preventative, corrective and breakdown maintenance on instrumentation and analyser systems.
• Maintain, calibrate, inspect and repair process analysers and associated sample systems, including Gas Chromatographs (GC), NIR, TOC, pH and conductivity analysers.
• Perform fault finding, inspection and maintenance of instrumentation and safety-critical systems.
• Maintain hazardous area equipment in accordance with IEC 60079 standards.
• Support the maintenance of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) in line with IEC 61511.
• Prepare permit requests, risk assessments and method statements, ensuring compliance with Control of Work procedures.
• Coordinate maintenance activities with operations, contractors and other engineering disciplines to minimise plant downtime.
• Record maintenance activities, raise notifications and complete work orders using SAP and other maintenance management systems.
• Manage spare parts requirements and maintain accurate maintenance records.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure all work is completed in accordance with site safety procedures and industry best practice.
Requirements
• ONC, recognised apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Previous experience within chemical, petrochemical, downstream oil & gas or other major hazard process industries.
• Current CompEx Ex01-Ex04 certification.
• Strong practical knowledge of ATEX and DSEAR.
• Experience maintaining Safety Instrumented Systems (IEC 61511).
• Strong fault-finding skills across instrumentation and analyser systems.
• Experience carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance on process analysers including GC, NIR, TOC, pH and conductivity analysers.
• Experience with installation and commissioning activities.
• Good understanding of Distributed Control Systems, ideally Honeywell HPM/C300 and FSC/SM ESD systems.
• Experience using SAP or other Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), along with Microsoft Office.
• Functional Safety / SIL certification (IEC 61511) desirable.
• Small bore tubing / Swagelok certification desirable.
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations desirable.
• Excellent planning, communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Previous experience leading maintenance activities or acting as a Lead Instrument Technician would be advantageous.
