Instrument Technician

We’re looking for an experienced Instrument Technician to join an operational gas production and processing environment, supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of critical plant and equipment.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working with complex instrumentation and being part of a team where your knowledge and experience genuinely make a difference.

The opportunity offers a great work life balance working 1 week on - 1 week off.

You’ll be responsible for routine and non-routine maintenance, fault finding, commissioning and modifications across critical instrumentation and control systems, helping to keep plant operating safely and to schedule.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an Instrument Technician, you will:

• Carry out routine engineering maintenance and defect repair to ensure the reliability and availability of operational plant and equipment.
• Undertake both planned and reactive maintenance in line with approved procedures, operational requirements and site safety standards.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems on critical plant, identifying practical solutions and returning equipment to normal operation.
• Work across key systems including Fiscal Metering, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Emergency Shutdown (ESD), and Fire & Gas systems.
• Complete commissioning and decommissioning activities to support planned plant operating programmes.
• Contribute to plant modifications and commissioning, identifying opportunities and making recommendations to improve reliability and availability.
• Prepare technical reports and maintain accurate maintenance records through recognised company systems.
• Liaise with vendors, engineering teams and external auditors where required.
• Supervise other technicians, contractors and vendor personnel when required, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
• Ensure appropriate permits, procedures and safe systems of work are in place before undertaking maintenance activities.
• Work closely with operations and engineering teams to minimise downtime and maintain safe, reliable production.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced Instrument Technician with a strong background in industrial, gas, energy or process environments.

You’ll ideally have:

Proven experience as an Instrument Technician within a process, gas, oil & gas, energy or similar environment.

Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.

Experience working with instrumentation and control systems.

Knowledge of systems such as DCS, ESD, Fire & Gas and Fiscal Metering would be highly advantageous.

Experience working to permit-to-work and safe systems of work.

The ability to interpret technical information, diagnose problems and implement effective solutions.

Good communication skills and the confidence to liaise with operations, engineering teams, vendors and contractors.

The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a wider team.

A strong commitment to safety, quality and operational reliability.
