Interim Deputy Headteacher, SEMH Special School
Brava Education
Brava Education is working with a special school for pupils with SEMH and ASD, who need to appoint an Interim Deputy Headteacher with a pastoral focus.
The role
You will lead the pastoral side of the school and work alongside a second Deputy who holds the quality of education brief. Your remit covers behaviour, attendance, inclusion, safeguarding and vulnerable groups, alternative provision and the development of trauma-informed practice across the school.
You will line manage the assistant heads within your area, and provide coaching and mentoring to a leadership team that includes some newer leaders. The role is largely operational: a visible presence around the school, quick to build relationships with pupils and staff, and able to get systems working well. There is no timetabled teaching commitment.
You will report to the Head and have the support of an experienced senior leadership team.
About you
- Current or recent Assistant or Deputy Headteacher in a special school or alternative provision. Former headteachers who are comfortable working at deputy level are welcome.
- Strong understanding of SEMH and direct experience of leading in that environment.
- Confident and current knowledge of the Ofsted framework and the inclusion agenda.
- Track record of improving behaviour, attendance and inclusion outcomes.
- Able to coach and develop other leaders.
- Able to start at short notice.
