We are working with an SME B2B business which is currently going through a significant period of change. As a result, they are looking to appoint an Interim Finance Director at short notice to provide senior financial leadership and help shape the next phase of the business.

This is a highly commercial Finance Director role, acting as the senior finance business partner to the SLT. You will play a key role in shaping financial strategy, supporting the growth agenda and wider investment priorities, while also driving greater accountability and performance across the business.

A major focus will be moving finance beyond traditional reporting into a genuine value-add function, providing insight, challenge and commercial support that helps the business make better decisions and deliver its strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the senior finance business partner to the SLT, providing insight, challenge and commercial leadership.
• Support the development and execution of the financial strategy, growth agenda and wider investment priorities.
• Lead the financial evaluation of new opportunities, including expansion plans, bids and tenders, with potential for client-facing involvement.
• Partner closely with commercial and operational leaders to improve contract performance and deliver stronger business outcomes.
• Lead the annual budget, rolling forecast and three-year planning processes.
• Provide clear, insightful commentary on business and entity performance,
• Hold senior leaders to account for financial performance, bringing stakeholders together to drive improvement.
• Take overall responsibility for the quality, accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
• Oversee management accounts, P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, capex reporting, reconciliations, controls and reporting timetables.
• Work with the wider business to improve cash flow, working capital and debt management.
• Partner with operations and commercial teams to improve financial and operational performance.
• Drive continuous improvement across finance, with a focus on data quality, process efficiency, simplification, cost saving and stronger controls.
• Help evolve the finance function into a more commercially focused, insight-led and value-adding business partner.

The Individual

• A fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Commercially minded, with strong business partnering and stakeholder management skills.
• Experienced in a B2B, recurring-revenue, project accounting or similarly commercially driven environment.
• Comfortable operating within a business undergoing significant change, transformation or growth.
• Experienced in financial strategy, planning, forecasting and performance management.
• Comfortable evaluating commercial opportunities and supporting bids, tenders, investments and growth initiatives.
• Strong technically, with a thorough understanding of financial reporting, controls, governance, cash flow and working capital.
• Calm and considered, particularly when dealing with complexity or pressure.
• Highly detail-oriented, with a strong focus on accuracy and the ability to understand and explain the story behind the numbers.
• Hands-on and pragmatic, with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get into the detail when required.
• Someone who takes ownership, gets things done and is focused on delivering tangible commercial outcomes rather than simply reporting them.
