Job Title: Interim Subject Access Request (SAR) Officer Location: Remote Contract: Interim - 2 to 3 Months Rate: £20 per hour Start Date: ASAP
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Interim Subject Access Request (SAR) Officer to join our team on a short-term basis to support the effective management and delivery of Subject Access Requests (SARs) within statutory timescales. This is a fully remote position offering an immediate start for an initial 2-3 month period.
The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating, processing and responding to SARs, ensuring compliance with UK GDPR, Data Protection legislation, and organisational policies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and process Subject Access Requests from receipt through to completion.
  • Review, collate and redact sensitive information in line with data protection legislation.
  • Liaise with internal departments to obtain relevant records and information.
  • Ensure all SARs are handled within statutory deadlines and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and audit trails of SAR activity.
  • Assess information disclosures and identify any exemptions where applicable.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers and colleagues on SAR-related matters.
  • Escalate complex cases and data protection concerns as appropriate.
  • Support the wider Information Governance and Data Protection function as required.
Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience managing Subject Access Requests in a public sector, healthcare, social care, housing, education, or regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and information governance principles.
  • Experience reviewing and redacting confidential and sensitive information.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage a high-volume caseload.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and electronic record management systems.
Desirable
  • Information Governance or Data Protection qualification.
  • Experience working within local government, NHS, housing or social care settings.
  • Knowledge of Freedom of Information (FOI) processes.
