The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join a growing Quantity Surveying and commercial consultancy, working alongside the Director and supporting an MEP client on a major Data Centre project in London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Intermediate Quantity Surveyor with ideally 2-3 years' experience who already has some exposure to Mechanical & Electrical building services and is looking to develop their commercial experience within the rapidly growing data centre sector.

You will work closely with the Director, senior commercial professionals and the client, gaining hands-on experience across the commercial management of significant MEP packages.

The position would particularly suit an ambitious JIntermediate Quantity Surveyor who wants greater responsibility, exposure to major projects and the opportunity to develop their career within MEP Quantity Surveying.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the commercial management of mechanical and electrical packages on a major London Data Centre project.
  • Assisting with the preparation and assessment of valuations and applications for payment.
  • Supporting cost planning, budgeting and forecasting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assisting with subcontractor procurement and tender analysis.
  • Reviewing subcontractor quotations and helping with commercial comparisons.
  • Assisting with the management and valuation of variations and change.
  • Supporting the preparation of cost reports and commercial updates.
  • Monitoring project expenditure against agreed budgets.
  • Assisting with subcontractor applications and payments.
  • Supporting the management of commercial and contractual documentation.
  • Maintaining accurate records of costs, variations and project changes.
  • Liaising with the client, contractors, subcontractors and wider project team.
  • Attending commercial and project meetings where required.
  • Supporting senior management with the preparation of commercial reports.
  • Assisting with final account preparation and agreement.
  • Developing a strong understanding of MEP packages and the commercial requirements associated with complex building services projects.

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • 1–2 years' experience within Quantity Surveying would be ideal.
  • Experience as a Intermediate Quantity Surveyor, Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Graduate Quantity Surveyor.
  • Previous exposure to MEP / Mechanical & Electrical building services.
  • A good understanding of mechanical and electrical services within the construction industry.
  • An understanding of Quantity Surveying and commercial principles.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence working with clients, contractors and other members of the project team.
  • Good Microsoft Excel skills.
  • A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or a related discipline, or currently working towards one.
  • A genuine desire to develop a career within MEP Quantity Surveying.

Previous Data Centre experience would be advantageous but is not essential, provided you have relevant MEP/building services knowledge.
