A large and well-established specialist subcontractor is looking to recruit a Junior / Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a QS with around 2 years’ experience or more who is looking to develop their career with a business that works on major construction projects across London. Full training will be provided in the company’s specialist sector, so applicants do not need previous experience in this exact trade package.

The role will be split between the company’s office in Walthamstow, E17, remote working and occasional site visits across London.

The Role

As Junior / Intermediate Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team with the financial and contractual management of projects from pre-construction through to final account.

Duties will include:

  • Assisting with the commercial management of specialist subcontract packages
  • Preparing and submitting valuations and payment applications
  • Measuring works and reviewing drawings/specifications
  • Supporting with variations, change control and cost reporting
  • Assisting with procurement and subcontractor packages where required
  • Monitoring project costs, budgets and commercial performance
  • Attending meetings with project teams, clients and site teams
  • Carrying out site visits across London when needed
  • Supporting senior commercial staff with final accounts
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records and project documentation

Candidate Requirements

The company is looking for someone who has already gained some experience within quantity surveying and is keen to continue developing.

You will ideally have:

  • 2+ years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Assistant QS or Trainee QS
  • Experience within construction, ideally with a contractor or subcontractor
  • A good understanding of valuations, variations and cost control
  • Strong numerical, communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A professional attitude and willingness to learn a specialist sector
  • Relevant construction or quantity surveying qualifications would be beneficial
  • Ability to travel to London sites when required

Package

  • Salary between £30,000 and £45,000, depending on experience
  • 50% office-based in Walthamstow, E17
