Job title: Wellbeing Officer - Transition

St David Recruitment is seeking an experienced Wellbeing Officer (Transition) for our client in the Education sector.

The role focuses on supporting vulnerable learners to make a successful transition into college. You will work with learners, families, schools, alternative education providers and external agencies to understand individual needs, coordinate appropriate support and remove barriers to wellbeing, attendance, engagement and progression.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the transition of vulnerable learners into college and coordinate appropriate support.
  • Build positive relationships with learners, families, schools and external agencies.
  • Gather and share relevant information regarding wellbeing, safeguarding and support needs.
  • Provide one-to-one guidance, advocacy and practical support to learners experiencing personal, social or emotional difficulties.
  • Support learners during periods of crisis or significant challenge.
  • Attend transition, planning, review and multi-agency meetings.
  • Identify barriers to learning and wellbeing and coordinate timely interventions.
  • Monitor attendance, engagement and progression and respond to emerging concerns.
  • Signpost and refer learners to specialist, community and support services.
  • Develop and support wellbeing initiatives promoting mental health, resilience, inclusion and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with Curriculum, ALN, Wellbeing, Safeguarding, Learner and Campus Services teams.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with safeguarding, GDPR, equality and health and safety requirements.
  • Travel between college locations as required.

About You

We are looking for someone who is empathetic, patient, approachable and passionate about supporting young people. You should be able to build trusted professional relationships, manage an independent caseload, communicate effectively whilst  remain calm when supporting learners in difficult circumstances.

Essential Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS – Adults & Children.
  • Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and learner welfare.
  • Experience supporting young people, vulnerable learners or individuals facing barriers to education, training or employment.
  • Strong communication, organisational and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage competing priorities.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Teams, Excel and Outlook.

Desirable

  • Level 3 qualification in Education, Youth Work, Health & Social Care, Safeguarding, Wellbeing or a related field.
  • Counselling qualification.
  • Welsh Language Courtesy Level or above, or willingness to undertake training.
  • Experience working within education, youth work, wellbeing or safeguarding.
  • Experience supporting young people through transition into education, training or employment.
