Junior/Assistant Project Manager
Rogers McHugh Recruitment
About you
If you’ve got experience in commercial fit out and you’re looking for the next step in your career, this could be a really good opportunity.
You might already be working as a Junior Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager with a couple of years’ experience. You could also be coming off the tools with a strong background in fit out and be ready to move into project management. Equally, if you’ve recently graduated from university and have a relevant construction degree, I’d be interested in speaking to you.
What matters most is that you understand construction, you’re keen to learn and you want to develop into a Project Manager.
The work is predominantly across the North, so you’ll need to be comfortable travelling to projects and working with clients, subcontractors and site teams.
Your experience
Ideally, you’ll have some experience of commercial fit out, particularly Category A and Category B projects.
If you’re already working in an Assistant Project Manager or Junior Project Manager position, a couple of years’ experience would be ideal.
If you’re coming from a trade background, I’m more interested in the quality of your fit out experience and your understanding of how projects are delivered than whether you have previously held a management title.
For graduates, a degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Quantity Surveying or a related construction subject would be beneficial. You’ll need to be organised, commercially aware and confident communicating with different people.
Most importantly, you need to be someone who wants to progress. This is an opportunity to learn from experienced people and build the skills required to become a successful Project Manager.
What you will be doing with your experience
You’ll be involved in the delivery of commercial fit out projects across the North, working closely with the delivery team and reporting directly into the Delivery Director.
You’ll support projects from pre construction through to completion, working with subcontractors, suppliers, site teams and clients to make sure everything is progressing as it should.
You’ll get involved with programme management, subcontractor coordination, monitoring progress, dealing with project issues and making sure work is delivered to the required quality and timescales.
Your level of responsibility will depend on your experience. If you’re already a Junior Project Manager, you’ll be given the opportunity to take on more responsibility. If you’re coming off the tools or are a recent graduate, you’ll be supported while you develop your project management skills and understanding of commercial fit out.
The Cat A and Cat B experience will give you exposure to a varied range of commercial refurbishment projects and a strong platform to develop your career.
The salary is expected to be around £40,000 to £45,000 for someone with relevant experience, with the package depending on your background.
About the business
You’ll be joining an established construction and fit out business delivering commercial projects predominantly across the North.
A significant proportion of the work is for a major commercial property client, giving you the opportunity to work on a consistent pipeline of projects and gain experience across a range of commercial fit out schemes.
You’ll report directly into the Delivery Director, giving you good exposure to senior management and the opportunity to learn from someone who is closely involved in the delivery of the business.
For someone coming off the tools, a recent graduate or an existing Junior Project Manager, this is a chance to build a career in project management within a business where you can learn, take on responsibility and progress.
