Junior Civil Design Engineer

UK Power Networks (Operations) Ltd

Remote-friendly

Are you a Civil Engineering graduate and early-career design engineer ready to develop your technical expertise on essential power infrastructure projects? UKPN Services is looking for a Junior Civil Design Engineer to join our Engineering Design team at Heathrow, supporting the design and delivery of civil and structural solutions for electricity network assets. This is a permanent role reporting to the Principal Civil Design Engineer, offering a salary of £56,576 plus a 3% bonus.

You will play an important part in delivering civil design technical excellence across the UKPN Services portfolio. Working under the supervision of a Senior Civil Designer and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will help produce high-quality civil and structural design solutions that comply with relevant legislation, engineering standards, UK Power Networks Services policies and the latest British Standards, ESQCR, Building Regulations and Fire Safety rules.

In this role, you will contribute to the design, build and commissioning process for electricity network assets, support the production of civil specifications, and help create cost-efficient and technically viable designs from initial enquiry through to the successful delivery and business closure of new assets. You will work closely with structural and electrical engineers, quantity surveyors, CAD engineers, suppliers and clients to resolve civil engineering issues, assess third-party construction works affecting network assets and support the procurement of engineering products and services.

Your work will also involve contributing to safer designs by helping to eliminate or reduce hazards, supporting Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements, following safe working methods and taking personal responsibility for meeting UKPNS health and safety standards. You will also have the opportunity to research feasible civil and structural engineering developments that could be introduced into future designs.

We are looking for someone with a Civil Engineering degree, a reasonable knowledge of civil engineering and building works within the utility sector, and experience using the AutoDesk suite for civil engineering design, such as Revit, Robot or Civil3D. Experience with structural design software, roadworks, drainage, structural steel works, cable routes, substation buildings, outdoor distribution equipment structures, fences and high-security features, secondary oil containment, building services, ventilation systems and fire suppression systems would be beneficial.

If you are ready to build your civil design career while supporting projects that keep critical electricity infrastructure moving, we would like to hear from you. Please apply by 27 July 2026.
