Build a Long Term Career in Precision Machining

We are recruiting for a Junior CNC Machinist to join a specialist materials testing business in Banbury.

This opportunity would suit someone who is practical, dependable and genuinely interested in developing technical machining skills.

Previous CNC experience is not essential. The company is more interested in finding someone with the right attitude, attention to detail and willingness to learn from experienced machinists.

You will begin at Level 1 and receive structured training designed to develop your skills through to Level 3.

About the Role:

The components produced within this facility are used during destructive material testing.

Although many of the designs are relatively straightforward, they must be manufactured to extremely tight, aerospace level tolerances.

Accuracy is essential. Any variation in the finished component could affect the reliability of the test results, which are used to assess whether materials are suitable for critical applications.

You will initially learn the fundamental machining processes before gradually progressing into CNC work as your confidence and capability increase.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing raw materials using band saws
  • Learning manual milling and turning processes
  • Carrying out cylindrical grinding and polishing
  • Producing components to highly accurate specifications
  • Following detailed manufacturing instructions and quality procedures
  • Checking your work carefully to ensure tolerances are achieved
  • Developing an understanding of CNC machining
  • Completing ongoing technical training
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and organised working environment
  • Taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of your work

What We’re Looking For:

You do not need to be an experienced machinist, but you will need to demonstrate:

  • A reliable and consistent approach to work
  • A willingness to listen, learn and take feedback
  • A practical, hands on mindset
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Patience when completing precise work
  • An interest in machinery, engineering or manufacturing
  • The ability to remain calm and focused
  • A genuine desire to build a long term technical career
  • A positive attitude without ego

Training and Development:

This is a structured development opportunity rather than a standard machine operating position.

You will receive guidance from experienced machinists and gradually develop your skills across manual machining, grinding, polishing and CNC processes.

The company maintains high standards, but employees are given the support and time needed to learn each process properly.

Salary and Benefits:

  • £27,500 starting salary
  • 21% shift premium when working afternoon shifts
  • Structured salary progression
  • 23 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Holiday entitlement increasing with length of service
  • Workplace pension
  • Death in service benefit
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Company events and team activities
