Junior Estimator - Groundworks and Reinforced Concrete

Location: Skelmersdale, Lancashire
Salary: £30,000-£38,000, depending on experience

Bennett & Game are pleased to represent an established specialist contractor appointing a Junior Estimator based from their regional office in Skelmersdale.

The company delivers groundworks and reinforced concrete structures packages across the building and civil engineering sectors, with projects typically valued between £5 million and £30 million.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate, trainee or construction professional looking to develop a career in estimating. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced Estimators and receive structured training, mentoring and hands-on exposure to live tenders.

• Assist with preparing competitive tenders from construction drawings and specifications
• Measure and take off quantities from technical and construction drawings
• Support the preparation of rates and estimates under the guidance of senior Estimators
• Obtain and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
• Assist with reviewing tender documentation and preparing submissions
• Raise technical queries with clients and design teams where required
• Support the management of multiple live tenders at different stages
• Attend tender review and project handover meetings
• Develop an understanding of commercial risks and value-engineering opportunities
• Assist with the handover of successful tenders to construction delivery teams
• Develop technical and commercial knowledge through practical experience and mentoring

• HNC, HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
• Relevant construction industry experience may also be considered
• Placement, trainee or site experience within construction, groundworks or reinforced concrete would be advantageous
• Strong numerical and analytical skills
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Ability to manage priorities and work to deadlines
• Ability to work effectively as part of a commercial team
• Based within a commutable distance of Skelmersdale
