Junior Naval Architect
Location: Portsmouth - 3 days on site / 2 days working from home
Salary: £38,000 - £45,000 depending on experience
Junior Naval Architect needed in Portsmouth, to join one of the UK's largest maritime organisations.
Relocation support can be considered on a case-by-case basis, however you must be a UK resident & passport holder to meet eligibility & clearance criteria.
What the role of the Junior Naval Architect entails:
Some of the main duties of the Junior Naval Architect will include:
- Conducting structural analyses using ANSYS Finite Element Analysis software and theoretical methods
- Conducting stability analyses using Paramarine naval architecture software
- Taking part in inclining experiments of naval ships and completing the post-experiment analysis
- Design of ship modifications and capability upgrades
- Undertaking the technical analysis required for drydocking of ships
- Lending expertise to the through-life maintenance and support of ships
- Consulting on naval base facilities which require naval architecture knowledge
- Participating in a wide range of activities including concept upgrade design, detailed design, support to build, delivery and in service support to surface ship platforms and naval base facilities
What experience you need to be the successful Junior Naval Architect:
Essential:
- Qualified to degree level, with a Bachelors and/or Masters in Naval Architecture / Marine Technology / Ship Science
- Eligibility to obtain UK SC Security Clearance
- Keen interest in Naval Architecture and desire to learn!
Desirable:
- Experience of structural analysis using ANSYS Workbench
- Experience of the whole ship engineering design process
- Experience of the hydromechanic aspects of surface ship design, principally stability
- Familiarity of naval architectural software, such as PARAMARINE
- Experience of CAD software such as AutoCAD, Inventor
