Junior Quantity Surveyor - Carpentry/Joinery

We are working with a growing specialist contractor delivering carpentry and joinery packages across major construction projects in London and surrounding areas.

Their work covers a broad range of carpentry and joinery, from first and second-fix packages through to more detailed bespoke joinery. Projects include large residential developments alongside selected commercial and specialist schemes.

They are now looking to appoint a Junior Quantity Surveyor with previous carpentry or joinery experience.

Up to £30k salary but negotiale DOE

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a trade or commercial background who wants to develop their career within quantity surveying.

Working closely with the senior commercial team, you will gain exposure to the financial and contractual management of live carpentry and joinery projects.

Responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with the commercial management of projects
• Measuring and valuing works
• Preparing take-offs and reviewing drawings
• Assisting with project budgets and cost control
• Supporting valuations, variations and applications for payment
• Assisting with subcontractor and supplier management
• Reviewing costs against budgets
• Helping with tendering and estimating when required
• Supporting commercial reporting and project administration
• Liaising with site, design and commercial teams

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• Previous experience within carpentry, joinery or construction
• Some exposure to commercial or quantity surveying activities
• An understanding of construction drawings and specifications
• Good numerical and analytical ability
• Strong attention to detail
• Good communication skills
• A willingness to learn and develop into a fully competent QS

This could suit a carpenter/joiner looking to move into quantity surveying, or a junior commercial candidate who already has a solid understanding of carpentry and construction.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their commercial skills while working alongside an experienced team on substantial construction projects.
