An exciting opportunity to develop skill set and transition into a permanent role with professional trajectories has arisen within the TATA Steel/ Catnic Lintels site. Catnic manufactures and supplies a range of steel based products into the House Building and Construction Sector including their reputable Lintels range. 

The successful applicant will be early in their Engineering career with the goal to be a Technical Services Engineer. Coaching, mentoring and training will be provided via a structured CPD development programme.

Role: Junior Technical Services Engineer 

Location: Pontypandy Industrial Estate, Caerphilly CF83 3GL 

Rate: £13.51-£14.03ph 

Contract length: 12 months with the view to transition into a permanent role after the development programme 

Hours: Mon-Fri, 37 hours per week 

Start: ASAP but pending the successful result of a medical assessment, which does include a drug & alcohol test

Responsibilities: 

  • Supporting the delivery of technical advice, drawing interpretation and product guidance to customers and internal stakeholders

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and construction details

  • Assisting with technical calculations and product/application queries

  • Supporting the preparation and amendment of CAD drawings and technical documentation

  • Liaising with sales, manufacturing, design, and project teams to support customer requirements

  • Helping resolve technical issues and responding to enquiries professionally and efficiently

  • Maintaining accurate technical records and documentation

  • Building strong technical product knowledge through structured training

  • Contributing to continuous improvement within the Technical Services function

  • Completing all development objectives within the 12‑month CPD programme

  • Adhering to the highest standards of UK Health and Safety at all times 

Essential requirements: 

  • HNC/HND holder (or equivalent) within Structural Engineering, Construction, Civils or Engineering

  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering and/or Construction drawings 

  • Some exposure to structural, civil construction or manufacturing technical environments (12 months+)

  • CAD experience (preferably AutoCAD)

  • Strong IT literacy, especially with MS Office 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skill

  • Ability to organise own day and prioritise workload accordingly 

  • A proactive nature with an open mindedness towards continued development
