Kitchen Porter
Interaction Recruitment
Location: Kensington, London
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 2:45pm
Contract: Permanent, term time only
Pay: £14.80 per hour (London Living Wage)
We're looking for a reliable, hardworking Kitchen Porter to join the catering team at a well-regarded school in Kensington.
This is the kind of role that holds a kitchen together. The chefs can't cook and the children can't be fed unless the pots are clean, the deliveries are put away and the section is ready to go — and that's where you come in. You'll be part of a small, friendly team where everyone knows each other's names and the work is genuinely appreciated.
It's an early start, but you'll be finished by quarter to three every day, with your evenings free, your weekends your own, and all school holidays off. For the right person, that's a difficult combination to beat.
What you'll be doing- Pot wash and dishwashing — keeping pans, trays, utensils and crockery clean and turned around quickly through service
- Operating and cleaning the dishwasher, and keeping the wash-up area tidy and organised
- General kitchen cleaning: floors, surfaces, equipment and fridges, to a high standard of hygiene
- Receiving deliveries and putting stock away, including moving and lifting boxes and stock
- Taking out waste and managing recycling
- Supporting the chefs and wider catering team wherever an extra pair of hands is needed
- Following food safety, allergen, COSHH and health and safety procedures at all times
Please note: this is a physically active role. It involves being on your feet throughout the shift, and regular lifting, moving and carrying of deliveries, stock and kitchen equipment.
What we're looking for- A strong work ethic and pride in doing a job properly
- Reliability — the team needs to know you'll be there
- The ability to keep your head and keep moving during a busy service
- A friendly, team-minded attitude
- Good standards of cleanliness and hygiene
- Comfortable working in a school environment
- Previous kitchen porter or catering experience is welcome, but not essential — full training is given
- Basic Food Hygiene Level 2 is an advantage, though not required
- London Living Wage — above the statutory minimum
- Permanent, stable contract with a well-established school
- Term time only, with all school holidays off
- No evenings, no weekends
- Free meals on duty
- Full training and genuine support from a friendly team
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and full reference checks prior to starting.
