The role

Based at the company’s Scientific Research Department, reporting into the Materials Technology and Research Manager, the role of Laboratory Technician will be responsible for the daily running of the research laboratory to ensure the laboratory functions safely and effectively, whilst adhering to the required industry standards.

Key responsibilities of the laboratory technician will include – 

  • Track equipment calibration and maintenance, organising service visits as required to ensure the equipment is compliant and in calibration prior to use.
  • Assisting other laboratory users to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Perform routine equipment checks to ensure in good working order.
  • Oversee document control on Q-pulse, notifying the scientific research team when documents are up for review.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment and how it is used to create data.
  • Maintain records of equipment calibration, material data sheets, laboratory SOP’s, chemical stock, PPE and risk assessments within the laboratory.
  • Lead and write risk assessments for new and modified equipment.
  • Order laboratory equipment and chemicals.
  • Maintain up to date scientific knowledge of relevant scientific and technical developments.

About you 

  • Degree in a relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent laboratory experience.
  • Skilled in analytical techniques.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements in a laboratory environment.
  • Able to work on own initiative, able to plan and prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Work to a high standard with high attention to detail.
  • Bring excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • The ability to critically evaluate and troubleshoot problems that arise.
  • Be able to multi-task and manage projects effectively
  • Excellent IT and administrative skills.
