We're looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our growing Site Services team in Watford. This is an excellent opportunity to build your career in a busy laboratory environment, working with construction materials and supporting projects that make a real impact.

About the Role

As a Laboratory Technician, you'll be responsible for carrying out laboratory testing in accordance with British and European Standards while maintaining the highest levels of quality, accuracy, and customer service.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and testing soil, bituminous, and cementitious construction materials.
  • Scheduling and organising laboratory samples for testing.
  • Calibrating laboratory equipment and carrying out routine maintenance.
  • Recording, preparing, and presenting accurate test data.
  • Cross-checking calculations and supporting quality assurance processes.
  • Assisting with the training of colleagues on laboratory test methods.
  • Conducting daily equipment and moisture content checks.
  • Preparing calibration samples and SRD sand for site technicians.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised laboratory environment.
  • Supporting the wider team with additional duties as required.
About You

We're looking for someone who is reliable, organised, and enjoys working as part of a team.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • A positive, flexible approach to work.
  • Ability to follow procedures and work within quality systems.
  • Experience working in physically demanding environments.
  • A strong commitment to Health & Safety.

Desirable:

  • Manual Handling training.
  • Experience in geotechnical or construction materials testing (training will be provided if required).
