The Opportunity:
Our client is looking for a Lead CNC Programmer & Machinist to join their growing operation in Milton Keynes. This is a unique opportunity to become one of the first technical hires within an ambitious manufacturing business, where your expertise will directly influence how the factory operates for years to come.
This isn't just another machining role. You'll take ownership of the entire manufacturing process from CAM programming and machine setup through to production, inspection and continuous process improvement. As the business grows, you'll also have the opportunity to mentor future team members and progress into a Production Manager position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Programme, set and operate CNC machines from engineering drawings and STEP files.
- Produce high-quality precision components to tight tolerances.
- Optimise toolpaths, cutting strategies and machining processes.
- Select tooling, fixtures and workholding solutions.
- Carry out first-off inspections and ensure components meet quality standards.
- Create setup sheets, machining documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Work closely with the leadership team to establish manufacturing best practices.
- Assist with machine installation, commissioning and process development.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to maximise efficiency and productivity.
- At least 4 years' experience within a CNC machining environment.
- Strong CAM programming experience using software such as Hypermill, Mastercam, Fusion 360, Siemens NX or similar.
- Experience programming, setting and operating CNC machinery.
- Excellent understanding of machining strategies, tooling, feeds and speeds.
- The ability to read complex engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Experience inspecting precision machined components using standard inspection equipment.
- A proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and problem solving.
- Aerospace, defence or high-precision manufacturing experience.
- Experience machining titanium, Inconel or other exotic materials.
- Knowledge of AS9100 quality standards.
- CMM, probing or advanced metrology experience.
