Are you an experienced Electrical Design Engineer looking to play a key role in delivering the UK's growing electricity infrastructure?
My client is an established and expanding engineering business delivering utility infrastructure projects across residential, commercial and industrial developments. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to strengthen their technical team.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a business where you'll have real influence over project delivery, work on a varied portfolio of LV and HV schemes, and help mentor the next generation of engineers.
The Role
You'll be responsible for producing high-quality LV and HV electrical network designs from concept through to approval and construction support. Working alongside project managers, utility providers and clients, you'll ensure designs are technically robust, compliant and delivered on programme.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Designing LV and HV electrical distribution networks
- Producing calculations, schematics, drawings and technical documentation
- Preparing designs in accordance with DNO, IDNO, ENA and G81 standards
- Managing technical approvals and responding to design queries
- Supporting construction and energisation activities
- Providing technical guidance to junior engineers
- Contributing to design standardisation and continuous improvement
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high technical standards
About You
You'll have experience designing electrical distribution networks within an ICP, IDNO, DNO, utility contractor or engineering consultancy.
You'll ideally have:
- HNC/HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering
- 3-5+ years' experience in LV/HV network design
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, substations and cable networks
- Knowledge of DNO/IDNO approval processes
- Experience producing technical calculations and design packages
- Familiarity with ENA and G81 standards
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to mentor and support less experienced engineers
- Professional registration (or working towards IEng) would be advantageous but is not essential.
