Lead Electrical Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer to join a major HV Substation / Small Power & Lighting project within the nuclear sector. Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager and/or Electrical Engineering Manager, you will take ownership of the electrical engineering scope, leading detailed design activities and ensuring successful project delivery.
Please note: This is a purely electrical engineering role. Candidates must have recent experience in electrical detailed design and be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of the electrical engineering scope, including planning, reporting, change control and coordination of the electrical team.
- Produce, review and approve detailed electrical design documentation, including calculations, specifications, datasheets, SLDs, schematics, cable schedules and equipment layouts.
- Support project estimates, prepare material requisitions and review supplier quotations and technical bid evaluations.
- Prepare installation scopes of work and ensure compliance with UK legislation, industry standards and client procedures.
- Carry out HV power system modelling, protection studies and support electrical equipment ageing and obsolescence management.
- Liaise with DNOs, suppliers, clients and other project stakeholders.
- Provide technical support to site teams during installation and commissioning.
- Lead engineering activities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Control Engineering or a related discipline (apprenticeship route also considered).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng), Incorporated Engineer (IEng), or working towards professional registration.
- 15+ years' experience in electrical engineering within the nuclear or another highly regulated industry.
- Recent experience delivering electrical detailed design for industrial power projects.
- Strong knowledge of UK electrical standards, legislation and installation requirements.
- Experience with HV/LV systems, hazardous area installations and CE marking requirements, including ATEX, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive and EMC Compliance.
- Proven experience leading electrical engineering teams and managing project delivery.
- Strong understanding of risk management, health & safety and quality standards.
- Excellent communication skills with a collaborative and customer-focused approach.
