Lead Engineer – Building Services
Location: Bristol
Salary: £42,000 + Company Van + Overtime + Call-Out
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00
Alice Rose Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced Lead Engineer to join a well-established facilities management contract covering a portfolio of education sites across Bristol.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Building Services or Maintenance Engineer who is looking to take their first step into management while remaining technically hands-on.
The successful candidate will primarily be based at one site in Bristol, while also providing engineering support and cover across three additional sites when required. You will work closely with the Engineering Supervisor, taking responsibility for planned and reactive maintenance while also providing technical support and guidance to the wider engineering team.
Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across the site

Maintain electrical, mechanical and HVAC plant and systems

Complete regular plant room inspections and identify potential faults

Fault-find and carry out remedial works

Ensure PPMs and reactive tasks are completed within agreed SLAs

Maintain accurate CAFM and site records

Support the Engineering Supervisor with the day-to-day running of the contract

Deputise for the Engineering Supervisor when required

Assist with compliance across areas including L8, fire safety, electrical systems and asset management

Ensure engineering documentation, logbooks and records remain up to date

Liaise professionally with clients, site staff and building users

Support and guide other engineers within the team

Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health & safety procedures
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a strong background within commercial building services or facilities management maintenance.
An electrical bias would be advantageous, although mechanically biased engineers with the right building services experience and willingness to develop will also be considered.
Candidates should ideally have:

Previous experience within building services or FM maintenance

Experience completing PPM and reactive maintenance

Knowledge of electrical and mechanical building services

Good fault-finding ability

Strong computer literacy and experience updating maintenance records

Ability to organise and prioritise a demanding workload
-
Good communication skills
-
Knowledge of health & safety and building compliance
-
Previous experience with CAFM systems would be advantageous

Electrical qualifications such as Level 3 and 18th Edition would be beneficial
Previous supervisory experience is not essential. This role would suit a strong Maintenance Engineer, Building Services Engineer or Senior Engineer who is ready to progress into a position with greater responsibility.
Package
Salary: £42,000
Company Vehicle: Commercial EV van provided
Hours: Monday to Friday, typically 08:00–17:00
Call-Out: 1 in 8 rota, £75 standby payment
Call-Out Payment: Minimum 4 hours at double time when called out
Overtime: Weekdays and Saturday mornings paid at 1.5x, with Saturday afternoons and Sundays paid at 2x
