Lead Inspector BICS

City Calling

Are you an experienced BICS Inspector who's ready to move beyond delivering inspections and start running the projects behind them?

We're recruiting on behalf of a specialist structural inspection, investigation, testing and repair contractor working across the highways, rail, waterways and utilities sectors. This is a senior technical role designed to develop an experienced inspector into a fully-fledged Project Manager, with direct mentoring from the Managing Director.

You'll keep doing the technical work you're strongest at while progressively taking on planning, programming, commercial awareness, client liaison and project delivery — and you'll lead a team of 4–5 inspectors along the way.

The role

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will:

  • Lead structural inspections, investigations and testing works nationwide
  • Carry out Principal, General and Special Inspections in accordance with CS450 / CD450 and other relevant standards
  • Complete desktop studies and review previous reports and drawings ahead of site works
  • Produce accurate inspection reports, and technically check reports produced by other inspectors
  • Assist with specialist investigations and NDT activities
  • Lead small to medium inspection projects from planning through to completion, and support Project Managers on larger schemes
  • Prepare RAMS, permits and health & safety documentation
  • Programme inspections, allocate resources and arrange specialist access, traffic management, plant and equipment
  • Act as day-to-day contact for allocated clients and attend client meetings
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of 4–5 Inspectors and Assistant Inspectors, including site inductions and toolbox talks
  • Work towards full Project Manager responsibilities — cost management, job profitability, variations, quotations, applications and invoicing, and commercial reporting

About you

We're looking for a senior inspector who is proactive, approachable and confident building relationships with both clients and their own team. Several of the inspectors you'll lead are early in their careers, so the ability to mentor and bring people on is as important as the technical knowledge.
