The Company
An established M&E building-services consultancy based in the heart of London is looking to appoint an experienced Lead M&E 2D/3D CAD Technician.
The consultancy works across a varied portfolio of commercial, residential, education, healthcare and mixed-use developments. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative engineering team and take responsibility for the quality and coordination of its M&E CAD output.
The Role
You will act as the lead M&E CAD professional within the business, producing high-quality 2D/3D mechanical and electrical drawings while supporting engineers and overseeing the work of the M&E CAD Technician.
The position will suit an experienced CAD Technician or Coordinator who has a strong understanding of building-services systems and is ready to take greater ownership of CAD standards, drawing quality and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed 2D/3D mechanical and electrical building-services drawings using AutoCAD.
- Lead and coordinate the consultancy’s M&E CAD workload.
- Support and provide technical guidance to the M&E CAD Technician.
- Convert engineers’ sketches, mark-ups and design information into accurate CAD drawings.
- Prepare coordinated layouts, schematics, sections, details and builders’ work drawings.
- Review drawings to ensure accuracy, consistency and compliance with company standards.
- Coordinate mechanical and electrical services with architectural and structural information.
- Identify and help resolve drawing clashes and coordination issues.
- Manage drawing registers, revisions, file structures and document-control procedures.
- Develop and maintain CAD templates, layering conventions and drawing standards.
- Liaise closely with mechanical and electrical engineers throughout each project.
- Assist with project deadlines and help prioritise CAD resources across multiple schemes.
- Attend internal design and coordination meetings where required.
- Support the continued improvement of CAD processes within the consultancy.
Skills and Experience
- Strong experience producing 2D/3D CAD drawings within an M&E or building-services consultancy.
- Advanced working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Good understanding of mechanical and electrical building-services systems.
- Experience producing drawings for projects at different design and construction stages.
- Ability to interpret engineers’ mark-ups, specifications and design information.
- Strong understanding of drawing standards, layering conventions and document control.
- Previous experience reviewing or coordinating the work of other CAD Technicians would be advantageous.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate work to project deadlines.
- Revit experience would be beneficial but is not essential, as this is primarily a 2D/3D CAD position.
