Role Purpose

  • The Lead Electrical Project Engineer will support the delivery of complex Data Centre, Renewable Energy and network infrastructure projects, working closely with design, commissioning and construction teams.
  • This is a site-based role with frequent UK travel, responsible for electrical construction, technical interfaces, quality, safety and commissioning support.
  • Significant experience delivering 11kV–132kV projects, including transmission-connected projects, is essential. The role reports to the Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical site activities across new connection and infrastructure projects from design through construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Coordinate works within live/operational substations for DNOs/TSOs, including open bus-bar environments.
  • Manage direct labour and subcontractors, ensuring work is delivered safely, to approved designs and engineering standards.
  • Provide technical leadership across electrical construction activities up to 400kV.
  • Develop electrical construction strategies and methodologies for 11kV–400kV projects.
  • Coordinate materials, plant and equipment requirements against approved designs.
  • Integrate commissioning activities into project programmes and coordinate FAT/SAT attendance.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience delivering UK transmission-connected projects at 275kV/400kV.
  • Extensive experience working in live DNO/TSO substations from 11kV–400kV.
  • Valid substation entry competency (11kV–132kV) with a UK DNO/TSO.
  • Experience as an Authorised Person (33kV–132kV) on DNO, TSO or private networks.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HV plant, switchgear, substations, cable systems and protection & control.
  • Strong understanding of UK Distribution Safety Rules, DNO G81 standards and NERS requirements.
  • Experience supporting tendering, estimating and work-winning.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical report-writing skills.
  • Minimum BTEC HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Valid Emergency First Aid at Work and CSCS/EUSR site card.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel frequently between UK sites.

Desirable

  • Senior Authorised Person (33kV–132kV) experience with a DNO/TSO.
  • Substation entry and safety documentation competency with UK Power Networks.
