Learning Mentor (SEMH)
Location: Chapel-en-le-Frith
Pay Rate: £100-120 per day DOE
Start Date: ASAP.
Hours: Full-time & long term, Monday to Friday

Setting: Small secondary school for children with SEMH needs.

 

 

Cover People are recruiting an SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist alternative provision in Chapel-en-le-Frith. This rewarding role involves supporting students who require additional emotional, behavioural and academic support, helping them to re-engage with education and develop the skills needed for future success.

 

The provision offers a personalised and nurturing approach, with a strong focus on wellbeing, positive relationships and tailored learning pathways. Staff work closely together to ensure every student receives the support they need to make meaningful progress.

 

The Role:
  • Support students with SEMH needs in lessons and intervention sessions.
  • Build positive relationships that encourage engagement, confidence and progress.
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs.
  • Assist with behaviour management using restorative and positive behaviour approaches.
  • Support students in developing emotional regulation, resilience and social skills.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams and external agencies to support student outcomes.
  The Ideal Candidate:
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence supporting students who may present challenging behaviour.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people succeed.

Requirements

  • A CV with full history from your education until present.
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Valid photo ID and proof of address.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for a new one).
  • Minimum of 2 professional references, covering the last 2 years.
  • A supportive and consistent attitude, with a genuine passion for working with vulnerable young people.
  • Overseas police certificate (if applicable).
