Behaviour Support Mentor (SEMH) – Failsworth – ASAP

Location: Failsworth, Greater Manchester
Pay: £90–£110 Per Day, Depending on Experience
Contract: Full-Time | Temporary With the Potential to Become Permanent

About the Role

We are looking for dedicated, confident and resilient Behaviour Support Mentors to join a secondary school in Failsworth, with immediate starts available.

The role involves supporting Key Stage 3 pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, both within the classroom and through tailored one-to-one support. You will help students manage their behaviour, develop emotional regulation skills and engage positively with their education in a structured and supportive environment.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning. The successful candidates will be comfortable supporting pupils who may display behaviours that challenge and will understand the importance of patience, consistency and positive relationship-building.

Whether you have previous experience in education or transferable skills from another support-based role, we would love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and classroom support for Key Stage 3 pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Help students manage their emotions and develop positive coping strategies.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and participation in learning.
  • Apply appropriate de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide consistent support.
  • Maintain a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, confidence and personal development.
  • Support pupils in developing resilience, independence and social skills.

About You

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH needs or behaviours that challenge is desirable.
  • Calm, patient and resilient when dealing with challenging situations.
  • Confident using behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
  • Able to build rapport with pupils while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
  • Previous experience in education, youth work, care, residential support or a similar setting is beneficial.
  • A proactive team player with strong communication skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to pupils' individual needs.
  • Passionate about helping young people succeed and reach their potential.

What We Offer

  • A supportive secondary school environment with experienced staff.
  • Competitive daily pay of £90–£110, depending on experience.
  • Full-time opportunities with immediate starts available.
  • Temporary positions with the potential to become permanent.
  • Valuable experience working within a specialist SEMH environment.
  • Opportunities for training and professional development.

If you're confident, resilient and passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs, this is an excellent opportunity to make a genuine difference while developing your experience in education.
