Currently recruiting for an experienced LSA to join a Further Education college in Epping Forrest, supporting learners with additional learning needs, disabilities and other barriers to learning.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN TA, LSA, Learning Support Assistant or SEND Support Worker who is passionate about helping young people develop their confidence, independence and ability to succeed within an educational environment.
The Role As a Supported Learning Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and the wider Supported Learning Team to provide tailored support to learners with a range of SEND and additional needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to learners in classroom and workshop environments.
- Supporting learners with SEND, EHCPs, learning difficulties and disabilities.
- Helping learners access their curriculum and make progress towards their academic and personal targets.
- Promoting independence, confidence, positive behaviour and engagement.
- Supporting learners with reading, scribing, IT and adapted learning materials where required.
- Assisting with exam access arrangements, including reading and scribing.
- Supporting learners with personal care and hygiene where required, including toileting, dressing, washing and eating.
- Supporting learners with mobility needs and using hoists and other assistive equipment where required.
- Following appropriate moving and handling procedures.
- Supporting learners on college activities, trips and off-site activities where required.
- Monitoring learner progress, attendance and engagement and contributing to support plans and reviews.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, Senior Support Workers, SEND teams and other college staff.
- Maintaining accurate records and providing feedback on learner progress and support needs.
- Following safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and equality policies at all times.
- Experienced working with young people or adults with SEND/additional needs.
- Ideally experienced within an educational, college, school, specialist provision or support-work environment.
- Confident providing both 1:1 and small-group support.
- Patient, compassionate and able to build positive relationships with learners.
- Able to encourage independence while providing appropriate levels of support.
- Comfortable supporting learners with challenging behaviour or complex needs.
- Ideally experienced in personal/intimate care, mobility support and/or moving and handling.
- Ideally familiar with hoists or other assistive equipment, although training may be available.
- Organised, reliable and confident communicating with teaching and support teams.
- Committed to safeguarding and creating a safe, inclusive learning environment.
Candidates with relevant qualifications in Learning Support, Teaching, SEND, Education, Health & Social Care or similar are encouraged to apply.
Experience or training in First Aid, personal care, moving and handling or medication support would be advantageous. Training may be provided for the right candidate.
