First for Education seeking a compassionate and proactive Learning Support Assistants for the new academic year (September 26) to join a specialist SEN school in Tamworth, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs.
The school are going to be increasing in size with the development of the main building on site resulting in the school nearly quadrupling in size.
These will be full-time, long-term positions, working with pupils who require additional support with learning, communication and personal development. Most pupils come from traumatic backgrounds and have often been out of education for a significant period of time. Meaning empathy, understanding and a willingness to take the small wins is paramount.
The school caters for pupils with a variety of needs and provides a highly supportive environment with access to specialist training. The school are looking for staff who are passionate about supporting children and young people from some of the most challenging backgrounds and experiences, and the person is more important than the ‘qualifications’.
SEN Teaching Assistant benefits:
- Competitive daily rate (£95 – £120 per day, dependent on experience)

SEN Teaching Assistant role requirements:
- Ideally previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or within an SEN setting
• Experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs (e.g. ASD, ADHD, SEMH, MLD)
• Strong communication, patience and resilience
• Ability to build positive and consistent relationships with pupils
• A proactive and adaptable approach
• Willingness to support with personal care if required (training provided)
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
• Enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to apply
The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will:
- Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
• Assist with both learning activities and personal development
• Support pupils with communication, behaviour and engagement
• Help create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
• Work closely with teachers, SENCO and wider support staff
• Adapt support strategies to meet individual pupil needs
