A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Croydon is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Learning Support Assistant to join its supportive team from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate Learning Support Assistant with experience supporting children with special educational needs to make a genuine difference to the academic, personal and social development of pupils within an Enhanced Learning Provision.
The successful candidate will primarily support a small group of pupils within an ELP class, all of whom have EHCPs and moderate learning difficulties. The role will focus on helping pupils access learning, develop independence and make meaningful progress both academically and personally.
The Role - Learning Support Assistant
The successful Learning Support Assistant will:
- Provide day-to-day classroom support to pupils within an Enhanced Learning Provision.
- Support a small group of pupils with special educational needs and EHCPs.
- Follow the guidance and direction of the class teacher.
- Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and completing learning activities.
- Provide feedback to the class teacher regarding pupil progress, achievements and next steps.
- Maintain appropriate records relating to individual pupil targets.
- Provide pastoral and emotional support to pupils throughout the school day.
- Build positive, professional relationships that develop pupils' confidence, resilience and learning behaviours.
- Support pupils during break and lunchtime.
- Liaise with parents and carers when required.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to provide consistent support.
The Ideal Learning Support Assistant
The school is looking for a Learning Support Assistant who:
- Has experience working with children with special educational needs.
- Has a strong understanding of how children with SEN learn, communicate and may behave.
- Is passionate about improving outcomes and life chances for children with additional needs.
- Is patient, nurturing and empathetic.
- Has excellent communication skills.
- Is flexible and able to adapt to the changing needs of pupils.
- Can effectively multitask and prioritise within a busy school environment.
- Works well as part of a small, supportive team.
- Is enthusiastic, hardworking and committed to achieving excellent outcomes for pupils.
- Is reflective and keen to develop their professional practice through CPD.
The ELP Provision
The Enhanced Learning Provision supports pupils with moderate learning difficulties, with pupils divided across two small classes. The successful Learning Support Assistant will work as part of a dedicated team committed to ensuring that pupils feel safe, valued and supported while developing the skills and confidence needed to succeed.
