Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join our specialist SEMH/SEN provision supporting pupils aged 11–16.

This is a long term temp to perm position.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support pupils both academically and emotionally. You will play a vital role in helping young people develop confidence, resilience, self-regulation, and the skills they need to succeed.

You will:

  • Support pupils within lessons and throughout the school day.
  • Build strong, positive relationships that promote trust and engagement.
  • Help pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their individual goals.
  • Provide academic support across a range of subjects.
  • Promote emotional regulation, wellbeing, and positive behaviour.
  • Support personalised learning and intervention programmes.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
  • Contribute to a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

We Are Looking for Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with young people, particularly those with SEMH and/or SEND needs.
  • Understands that behaviour is often a form of communication.
  • Is patient, calm, and emotionally resilient.
  • Can remain positive and solution-focused in challenging situations.
  • Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Is proactive and willing to use initiative.
