Learning Support Assistant

Location: Nailsea, North Somerset
Salary: Grade 14 (dependent on experience)
Contract: Term Time Only

We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Nailsea seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join its Student Welfare team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys supporting pupils with additional educational needs and wants to play a key role in helping every child achieve their potential.



The Role

Working closely with teachers and the wider inclusion team, you will provide high-quality support for students with a range of additional educational needs within the classroom. You will help pupils access learning, build confidence and develop the skills they need to succeed academically, socially and emotionally.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing classroom support for identified students with additional educational needs.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers to deliver adaptive teaching strategies and ensure pupils can access the curriculum.
  • Supporting students to remain engaged, motivated and confident during lessons.
  • Assisting pupils during break and lunchtime when required.
  • Building positive relationships with students, staff and external agencies.
  • Maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with colleagues in line with school procedures.
  • Contributing to the wider life of the school and supporting the Student Welfare team as required.


About You

We're looking for someone who is patient, positive and committed to supporting young people.

Ideally, you will have:

  • GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent Level 2 qualification) in English and Maths.
  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably within a school or educational setting.
  • An understanding of how to support pupils with a range of additional educational needs.
  • Good ICT skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A calm, resilient and flexible approach.
  • A positive attitude with the ability to motivate and encourage students to achieve their best.
