We are looking to recruit an experienced Maths Lectuer, to work at our Clients site in the North East of England. To deliver high-quality GCSE Mathematics and Functional Skills Mathematics provision to a diverse range of learners, enabling them to develop confidence, mathematical knowledge, and practical skills required for further study, employment, and everyday life. The postholder will inspire and motivate learners to achieve their full potential while contributing to the continuous improvement of the curriculum area.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare and deliver engaging GCSE Mathematics and Functional Skills lessons that meet awarding body requirements.
Differentiate learning activities to support learners of varying abilities, backgrounds, and learning needs.
Create an inclusive and positive learning environment that promotes achievement and progression.
Use a variety of teaching methods and digital technologies to enhance learning.
Monitor learner progress and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Prepare learners for examinations and assessments, ensuring they are fully supported to achieve their target grades.
Assess learner work in accordance with awarding body and organisational requirements.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, achievement, and assessment.
Analyse learner performance data and implement strategies to improve outcomes.
Participate in internal verification, quality improvement processes, standardisation activities, and curriculum reviews.
Act as a personal tutor where required, providing guidance, support, and pastoral care.
Promote high expectations of behaviour, attendance, and achievement.
Identify learners requiring additional support and work collaboratively with support services to meet their needs.
Contribute to safeguarding, wellbeing, and equality initiatives.
Contribute to the planning, development, and review of Maths programmes.
Ensure teaching materials remain current, relevant, and aligned to curriculum requirements.
Support the embedding of employability, digital skills, and numeracy across the curriculum.
Maintain up-to-date subject knowledge and understanding of curriculum developments.
Participate in staff development and continuous professional learning activities.
Attend team meetings, training sessions, and college events as required.
Comply with all organisational policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, equality and diversity, and data protection.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
Degree or equivalent qualification in Mathematics or a related subject.
Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.
GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
Experience of teaching GCSE Mathematics and/or Functional Skills Mathematics.
Experience of planning and delivering engaging lessons to learners with diverse needs and abilities.
Experience of assessing learner work and monitoring progress.
Experience of using learner data to improve performance and achievement.
Essential Knowledge and Skills
Strong subject knowledge in Mathematics.
Understanding of GCSE and Functional Skills specifications and assessment requirements.
Ability to motivate and engage learners who may lack confidence in Mathematics.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Effective organisational and time management skills.
Proficiency in the use of digital learning platforms and classroom technologies.
