Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Library Evening Supervisor on a part-time, permanent basis.

Reporting to: Deputy Head Librarian

Main purpose of the role: To support the effective operation of the School Library by supervising pupils during evening study sessions, maintaining a calm and productive learning environment, assisting library users, and carrying out routine library administration and housekeeping duties.

Library Evening Supervisor General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise pupils working in the Library during evening sessions, ensuring appropriate behaviour and adherence to library rules.
  • Maintain a quiet, studious, and welcoming environment that supports independent learning and academic achievement.
  • Respond to enquiries providing assistance and guidance where appropriate.
  • Operate the Library Management System to issue, renew, and return library resources accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist users in locating books, resources, and information within the Library.
  • Ensure library shelving is kept tidy, organised, and accurately maintained.
  • Carry out routine stock management tasks, including re-shelving returned books and ensuring resources are stored correctly.
  • Monitor the condition of library facilities and report any maintenance, health and safety, or safeguarding concerns promptly.
  • Prepare the Library in accordance with established procedures.
  • Promote a positive and respectful atmosphere within the Library at all times.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role as directed by the Deputy Head Librarian.

Library Evening Supervisor Person Specification:

The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:

Essential

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise and engage positively with young people.
  • Basic IT skills and confidence using computer systems.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional in approach.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a library, educational, or customer service environment.
  • Experience using a Library Management System.
  • Knowledge of library procedures and best practice.

Library Evening Supervisor Hours of Work:

You will be required to work 9.5 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 6.30pm to 8.30pm and Friday 6.30pm to 8.00pm.

This role will work term-time (33 weeks).

Remuneration:

The salary for this role is £5,073.34 per annum.

Holidays:

Holiday entitlement is included in the salary for this role. All holiday is to be taken outside of the working weeks.
