Our client, a leading provider of integrated facilities management and infrastructure solutions is hiring for a reliable and proactive Live-In Maintenance Caretaker to join the facilities team at a large school in Sheffield. Working as part of a team of four caretakers, you'll play a key role in ensuring the school remains safe, secure, and well-maintained while acting as the first point of response for site emergencies.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a varied, hands-on role and is looking for the benefit of on-site accommodation. As part of the position, you'll be required to live in the school's caretaker's house—a spacious three-bedroom semi-detached property available under a rental agreement of £250 per month, making it suitable for individuals or families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Open the school each morning and ensure the site is safe and ready for the school day
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across the school estate
  • Respond as the first point of contact for fire alarms, emergency call-outs and site safety issues
  • Complete general building maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical and building fabric repairs
  • Undertake routine inspections to ensure the site remains safe, secure and compliant
  • Support the upkeep of the school grounds, including gritting and clearing pathways during adverse weather
  • Set up rooms for assemblies, meetings, examinations and school events
  • Work alongside the wider caretaking team to maintain high standards across the site
  • Deliver larger maintenance and refurbishment projects during school holiday periods when pupils are off-site

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience in a caretaking, facilities maintenance or building maintenance role
  • Good all-round maintenance skills across building fabric, basic plumbing and electrical repairs
  • Understanding of health & safety and safe working practices within a school or similar environment
  • Confident dealing with emergency situations and acting as the first responder on site
  • Reliable, organised and able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Willingness to live on-site in the provided caretaker's accommodation as a condition of the role
  • Enhanced DBS check (required prior to starting – support will be provided)

If you're a practical, dependable maintenance professional looking for a long-term opportunity with the added benefit of affordable on-site accommodation, we'd love to hear from you.
