About the Role

We are recruiting an Acoustic Logging Technician to join our client’s water leakage detection team.

This field-based role involves deploying, programming and retrieving acoustic data loggers across the water network. These devices monitor sound within underground pipes, helping the team identify potential leaks, reduce water loss and maintain an efficient water supply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Locate suitable deployment points across the water network, including water valves and fire hydrants, following assigned routes and instructions.
  • Securely install acoustic loggers, ensuring correct positioning and good contact with the fitting to capture reliable sound recordings.
  • Activate and programme logging equipment, setting recording periods and parameters in line with project requirements.
  • Deploy multiple loggers across designated areas, keeping accurate records of device locations and installation details.
  • Return to deployment sites to retrieve equipment or download recorded data, depending on the logging system used.
  • Check that data has been captured successfully and report equipment faults, access issues or incomplete recordings.
  • Upload or pass collected data to the leakage detection team for analysis and further investigation.
  • Handle and maintain logging equipment carefully, reporting any damage or defects.
  • Follow safe working procedures when accessing valves, hydrants and other water network assets.
  • Work efficiently through daily schedules and communicate progress to the supervisor.

About You

  • Practical, reliable and comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to follow instructions and record information accurately.
  • Confident using handheld devices, mobile applications and basic technical equipment.
  • Able to organise your workload and work independently, as well as part of a wider team.
  • A responsible approach to health and safety.
  • Good communication skills and a professional manner when working in public areas.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience in water utilities, leakage detection, acoustic logging or a similar field-based role.
  • Familiarity with water network fittings, including valves and fire hydrants.
  • Experience deploying monitoring equipment or collecting field data.
