Hours: Monday to Friday, 6:00am – 2:00pm (Flexibility Required)
The OpportunityOur client is a well-established forgings manufacturer based in Halesowen, Dudley, supplying high-quality forged components to a range of industrial sectors. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Machine Shop Shift Supervisor to lead and develop a team within a busy machine shop environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and organise work orders and labour resources to achieve daily production targets and on-time delivery requirements.
- Ensure production time is fully utilised and departmental productivity is maximised.
- Monitor and approve timesheets and job bookings.
- Ensure all parts are manufactured in accordance with approved quality standards, route cards, drawings, and operating procedures.
- Drive compliance with standard working practices, workflow processes, cycle times, and work-in-progress controls.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities within production processes and techniques.
- Monitor, analyse, and manage departmental consumable stock levels.
- Provide daily direction and support to machine shop operatives.
- Work closely with Manufacturing and Project Engineers on new products and process development.
- Liaise with Quality Engineers to ensure quality expectations are understood and achieved.
- Coordinate with Maintenance teams to minimise downtime and maximise equipment availability.
- Develop and share technical knowledge of machine setup and operation across the team.
- Promote and maintain high standards of 5S housekeeping throughout the department.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental regulations at all times.
- Maintain departmental discipline and performance standards in line with company policies.
- Undertake additional duties as required to support operational objectives.
- Previous supervisory experience within a manufacturing, engineering, machining, or forgings environment.
- Proven experience managing and motivating teams.
- Strong understanding of machine shop manufacturing processes.
- Experience working within a unionised environment would be advantageous.
- Apprenticeship in a manufacturing or engineering discipline.
- Leadership or management qualification desirable.
- IOSH certification preferred.
- Strong IT skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building abilities.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to produce clear and concise documentation.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Flexible approach to working additional hours when required.
- Responsive and adaptable to changing business demands.
- Salary of £38,000 per annum.
- Stable day shift pattern of 6:00am – 2:00pm, Monday to Friday.
