Job description Swift Temps Ltd is recruiting for a hands-on Machine Shop Team Leader for our client based in Bradford to lead the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the Machine Shop on the Night shift, ensuring production is achieved in line with quality, delivery, and safety requirements. The department utilizes purpose-built drilling, tapping, and assembly machines, alongside manual assembly stations. You will directly supervise a dedicated shift team, allocate work, maintain standards and ensure smooth running of the department during the night shift.

As the senior responsible person on-site during the night shift, you will oversee both the people and the facility.

Key Responsibilities

What We Are Looking For

· Leadership Experience: Proven track record supervising teams in a manufacturing or engineering environment. Good communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.

· Basic IT skills, including the ability to maintain production and performance records.

· Technical Skills: Experience operating or setting drilling, tapping, or purpose-built assembly machinery.

· Safety First Mindset: Strong understanding of factory safety regulations and incident reporting.

· Good communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.

· Reliability: Confident in taking sole responsibility for a manufacturing site during night shifts.

· Location: Commutable distance to our Bradford site.

Operations and People Management

· Work Allocation: Assign tasks effectively to meet daily production, quality, and delivery targets.

· Hands-on Support: Work actively within the department to assist operators and supplement production output.

· Site Responsibility: Act as the primary keyholder and responsible person on-site during night hours.

· Cross-Department Liaison: Coordinate smoothly with Quality Control, Warehouse, Maintenance, and HR as needed.

Desirable

· Knowledge of Lean principles, 5S, TPM, or structured problem-solving.

· Understanding of metrology and measuring equipment.

· First Aid qualification.

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)

· Safety Culture: Promote a safety-first mindset across the entire shift team.

· Compliance: Enforce all company HSE procedures, risk assessments, COSHH controls, and PPE mandates.

· Incident Management: Lead first-level accident investigations, log near misses, and report hazards immediately.

· Equipment Oversight: Ensure all machinery, guards, tools, and lifting equipment are operated safely.

Working hours: Monday - Thursday, 18:00 – 6:00
