Academics are looking for a dedicated Mainstream SEN Teaching Assistant to work across mainstream schools in Rotherham. This role would suit a caring and adaptable Mainstream SEN Teaching Assistant who can support pupils with SEN while helping them develop academically, socially and emotionally.

Position: Mainstream SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Rotherham
Contract: Temporary, flexible ongoing supply
Pay: £92.56 - £95 per day (dependent on experience, training, qualifications and client rate available, paid via PAYE - no umbrella company fees, inclusive of holiday pay)
Start Date: ASAP / September

About the Role

As a Mainstream SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with additional needs within mainstream schools across Rotherham. Support may be provided on a 1:1 basis, in small groups or as part of the wider classroom, depending on the needs of each school and pupil.

The Mainstream SEN Teaching Assistant will work alongside class teachers and SEN staff to encourage positive learning, independence and engagement. Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH or other additional needs would be particularly beneficial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEN within mainstream classrooms
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group learning support where required
  • Help pupils engage with lessons and classroom activities
  • Support communication, confidence and independence
  • Assist with managing behaviour using positive strategies
  • Work alongside teachers and SEN staff to meet individual needs
  • Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN is essential
  • Understanding of additional needs such as Autism, ADHD or SEMH is desirable
  • Patient, calm and encouraging approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
  • Relevant qualifications or SEN training are desirable
