Maintenance Engineer

If you can turn your hand to electrical, mechanical and automation faults alike, this is a role that will use all of it.

This is a Maintenance Engineer role in a modern manufacturing operation investing in new technology, on a strong package with real earning potential.

As a Maintenance Engineer you will keep the production lines running for an established, forward-thinking manufacturing business. This is a multi-skilled role spanning electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and automation systems, so you will fault-find and repair everything from motors and drives to PLCs and control panels. Beyond keeping the plant running, you will help improve it, supporting the commissioning of new machinery, driving reliability and getting stuck into continuous improvement. It is a business investing in modern technology and sustainable production, so you will work with up-to-date kit and have a genuine say in making it better. If you take pride in solving problems others cannot and keeping a busy operation moving, this role will stretch you in the right ways.

Job Responsibilities
  • Carrying out preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance across electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Fault-finding and repairing equipment including PLCs, sensors, motors, drives and control panels
  • Responding to breakdowns quickly to minimise downtime and keep production lines running
  • Providing hands-on technical support to production teams and resolving bottlenecks
  • Supporting the installation, commissioning and validation of new machinery and automation systems
  • Interpreting technical drawings, wiring diagrams and P&IDs to install and repair equipment correctly
  • Improving equipment reliability and performance, including OEE, MTBF and MTTR
  • Getting involved in continuous improvement work such as Lean, Kaizen, TPM and 5S
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and work orders on the CMMS system
  • Following LOTO, risk assessments and safe working practices, and promoting a safety-first culture
  • Helping manage critical spares and keeping key parts available
  • Sharing knowledge and supporting apprentices and junior engineers

Skills and Experience
To succeed as a Maintenance Engineer you will need:
  • Proven multi-skilled maintenance experience, typically three to five years or more, in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong fault-finding and repair skills across both electrical and mechanical disciplines
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, ideally Siemens
  • Competence across pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, sensors, drives and control systems
  • Experience with automated production lines and PLC-controlled equipment
  • The ability to read and update electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and technical manuals
  • A time-served apprenticeship or equivalent, with an ONC, HNC or NVQ Level 3 or higher in an engineering discipline
  • 18th Edition (IET Wiring Regulations) certification, which is preferred
  • Experience of preventive and predictive maintenance and CMMS systems
  • Exposure to Lean, TPM or continuous improvement work, which is desirable
  • A willingness to work a three-shift pattern
  • A self-motivated, safety-focused and methodical approach

As a Maintenance Engineer you will receive:
  • A base salary of £50,676 per year
  • Shift premiums on top of your base salary
  • KPI-based bonuses
  • Overtime available
