Location: Tayport, Fife
Salary: £44,228.88 + profit share bonus worth circa £4,000–£7,000 per year

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to join a long-established and growing manufacturing business based in Tayport.

Shift Pattern

The role operates on a rotating shift pattern:

  • 3 x 12-hour day shifts per week for 3 weeks
  • 3 x 12-hour night shifts per week for 1 week
  • Only 1 weekend on shift in 4, included in the above
  • Average 35.5hrs per week

This offers a strong work-life balance compared with many traditional 4-on / 4-off or continental shift patterns.

As Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer, you will support the engineering team in maintaining and improving plant reliability across a busy manufacturing environment.

The role will involve a mixture of planned maintenance, reactive breakdown support, fault-finding, installation work, continuous improvement and supporting the commissioning of new equipment.

You will work closely with production teams to minimise downtime, improve reliability and ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance across production equipment and site services
  • Respond to breakdowns, diagnose faults and complete effective repairs
  • Fault-find on motors, control panels, wiring, circuit breakers and associated equipment and record maintenance activity, faults, repairs and parts usage on the CMMS system
  • Support installation and commissioning of new machinery and plant
  • Carry out inspections to identify potential equipment issues before failure
  • Support continuous improvement projects across engineering and production
  • Work closely with production teams to improve uptime, quality and reliability

What We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will be an experienced Maintenance Engineer or Multi-Skilled Engineer with strong hands-on electrical and mechanical fault-finding ability.

You will ideally have experience within a manufacturing, production, processing or industrial environment.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a multi-skilled maintenance or shift engineering role with recognised apprenticeship / qualifications
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
  • Experience working with planned maintenance systems / CMMS
  • Ability to work safely in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Desirable Experience

  • PLC fault-finding experience
  • Pneumatics and hydraulics
  • PUWER awareness or assessment experience
  • Experience in extrusion, coating, textiles, packaging, food, FMCG or wider manufacturing environments
  • Milling or turning experience
