We are looking for an experienced Mechanically Biased Engineer to join our engineering team at a busy distribution centre.
You will play a key role in ensuring that the automated and mechanical handling systems remain safe, reliable and operational, minimising downtime and supporting the smooth running of the site.
Working as part of a Multi-Skilled Engineering Team, you will be responsible for planned preventative maintenance, fault finding and reactive repairs across a range of mechanical equipment and material-handling systems.
Key Responsibilities for a Maintenance Technician
- Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on site equipment and machinery.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults efficiently to minimise operational downtime.
- Maintain conveyors, rollers, bearings, chains, belts, gearboxes, motors and associated mechanical systems.
- Complete inspections and preventative maintenance in accordance with agreed schedules.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns and equipment failures.
- Identify recurring faults and recommend improvements to equipment reliability.
- Work closely with operations and other engineering disciplines to resolve issues.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and update relevant systems.
- Support installation, modification and improvement projects when required.
- Comply with all health and safety, environmental and engineering standards.
- Previous experience as a Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or similar role.
- A recognised engineering qualification, such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent.
- Experience working with conveyors or automated/material-handling equipment.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with bearings, chains, belts, gearboxes and mechanical drives.
- Good understanding of planned preventative maintenance.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving equipment issues.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- A strong commitment to health and safety.
