Protocol Education are currently seeking a dedicated Makaton Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Sunderland.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with experience using Makaton who is passionate about supporting children with communication and additional needs.

You will provide tailored support to pupils throughout the school day, helping them communicate effectively, access their learning and develop greater independence.

The role will involve:
  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis
  • Using Makaton to support communication
  • Supporting pupils with additional and complex needs
  • Helping pupils access classroom activities
  • Encouraging independence and confidence
  • Building strong relationships with pupils and staff
  • Working alongside teachers and the wider support team
The ideal candidate will:
  • Have experience using Makaton
  • Have previous experience supporting children with SEN
  • Be confident adapting communication to individual pupils
  • Be patient, caring and nurturing
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be committed to supporting children to reach their full potential
Working hours:
  • Monday–Friday
  • 8:30am–4:30pm
  • Full-time position

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
