Management Accountant Job Description 

The Company and Group 

Global Ridgeway Management Limited was formed in 2012 as an administrative, accounting and back-office service company, supporting a privately owned international group operating across insurance, reinsurance and broking. 


The group operates across insurance, reinsurance and broking, with a primary presence in Africa and wider business activity across the US, Asia, and the Middle East. 

 
The Role 

Reporting to: Financial Controller 

Location: Ampthill, Bedfordshire 

Working pattern: office-based, with flexibility to work remotely where required 

Type: Full-time, fixed-term contract for 12 months (with the possibility of extension or a permanent position) 

 
Role Purpose 

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Management Accountant to support the finance function during a period of maternity leave cover and organisational transition. Reporting to the Financial Controller, the role will take ownership of key month-end processes, management reporting and financial analysis, while supporting stakeholders, guiding junior team members and contributing to the implementation of a bespoke operating system and a new accounting system. 

This is an excellent opportunity for an AAT-qualified, part-qualified or equivalent-level accountant to gain broad experience within a multi-currency, multi-entity business and support a significant finance transformation project. 

 
Key Responsibilities 

Operational Finance 
  • Complete daily finance processing, including the review, checking and input of information into the relevant systems.  
  • Review supporting documentation and ensure transactions are accurately processed.  
  • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash management processes as required.  
  • Review debtor balances and assist with credit control activities.  

Management Accounts & Reporting 
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts for multiple companies. 
  • Produce month-end journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations. 
  • Analyse financial performance and investigate variances against budget and prior year. 
  • Prepare cash flow reporting, month-end business updateand any other management reporting as required. 
  • Process inter-company recharges and reconciliations. 

Financial Control and Year-End Reporting 
  • Ensure robust financial controls and processes are adhered to. 
  • Support the preparation of year-end accounts and supporting working papers. 
  • Assist with year-end audit requirements, including responding to auditor queries and providing supporting documentation. 
  • Support the annual regulatory rating renewal and actuarial processes, including preparation and collation of relevant financial information. 

Business Partnering 
  • Work closely with operational and non-finance teams to provide financial insight and support. 
  • Help stakeholders understand financial performance and key business trends through business analysis and reporting. 

Systems & Process Improvement 
  • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and controls. 
  • Support ongoing finance systems developments and implementations. 
  • Assist with documentation of finance procedures and working papers. 
  • Drive efficiencies through automation, use of finance technology, and AI where appropriate. 

Skills & Experience 

Essential 
  • AAT qualified, part-qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA, or qualified by experience. 
  • Previous experience in a Management Accountant, Assistant Management Accountant or similar finance role. 
  • Strong month-end accounting experience, including reconciliations and financial analysis. 
  • Excellent Excel skills and confidence working with financial data. 
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities. 
  • Proactive, flexible and hands-on, with a willingness to get involved wherever needed. 
  • Comfortable with hands-on finance processing, system input and detailed checking of financial information. 
  • Confident using finance systems, with experience of Sage or similar systems desirable. 

Desirable 
  • Experience within insurance, financial services or regulated environments. 
  • Experience supporting audits, statutory accounts preparation or year-end reporting.
