The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to take a leading role in the commercial management of major civil engineering and infrastructure projects.

You'll be involved from pre-construction and tender through to delivery and final account, with responsibility for cost planning, procurement, subcontract management, forecasting and contract administration.

This is a great opportunity for a commercially strong Senior QS or Managing QS who wants to take ownership of major projects while leading and developing a wider commercial team.

Strong NEC4 experience, particularly Option E, is essential.



What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead commercial input across pre-construction, tenders and bids.

  • Develop cost plans, estimates, budgets and commercial strategies.

  • Manage subcontract procurement, negotiation and administration.

  • Lead cost forecasting, CVRs, valuations and monthly reporting.

  • Manage NEC4 compensation events, variations and change control.

  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.

  • Support value engineering and procurement strategies.

  • Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors.

  • Lead, mentor and develop junior and intermediate QSs.

  • Support commercial negotiations and dispute avoidance.

  • Ensure strong commercial governance and contractual compliance.



What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Strong experience as a Senior or Managing Quantity Surveyor.

  • Background in civil engineering, infrastructure or major construction.

  • Proven pre-construction, estimating and cost planning experience.

  • Strong subcontract procurement and negotiation experience.

  • Excellent knowledge of NEC contracts, particularly NEC4 Option E.

  • Experience with compensation events and contract administration.

  • Strong experience with CVRs, forecasting and financial reporting.

  • Previous experience managing or mentoring commercial teams.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable:

  • MRICS, MCIOB or MCInstCES, or working towards chartership.

  • Major infrastructure, rail or highways experience.

  • Experience with framework or alliance contracts.

  • CSCS PQP Card.

  • Experience with digital construction/BIM.
