We're currently working with a Tier 1 contractor that is looking to appoint an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Hertfordshire.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially strong QS with a background in social housing, residential refurbishment, major works or new build to take on a senior commercial position across a varied portfolio of projects.



The Role

As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you'll take commercial responsibility for a portfolio of projects, working closely with operational teams, clients and supply chain partners to ensure projects are delivered successfully and profitably.

The role will involve a mixture of residential refurbishment, cladding, external works, internal refurbishment, major works and new-build projects, providing excellent variety and long-term opportunity.



Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall commercial responsibility for allocated projects
  • Manage budgets, costs, forecasting and cash flow
  • Lead the commercial management of subcontractors and supply chain
  • Manage variations, valuations, applications and final accounts
  • Produce accurate financial reporting and forecasts
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities
  • Work closely with project and operational teams
  • Develop strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
  • Provide guidance and support to junior Quantity Surveyors


About You

We're looking for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor who can demonstrate:

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying or a relevant construction-related discipline
  • Previous experience working for a Tier 1 contractor
  • Strong experience across social housing, residential construction, refurbishment or major works
  • Experience with cladding, re-cladding, internal/external refurbishment or new build would be highly advantageous
  • Strong commercial and contractual knowledge
  • Experience managing projects from a commercial perspective through to final account
  • Experience managing and developing junior commercial staff
  • Excellent client, subcontractor and stakeholder management skills
  • A commercially driven and proactive approach
